Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the 2025/2026 school year!
I am so excited to welcome back our returning friends as well as meet new faces. I hope all of you have had a fun, relaxing summer making memories.
For families new to our program, my name is Kim Zylka and I am the Director at MDELC. I am in my second year in this role, previously working as the preschool/special services coordinator for Summit Hill 161. I am in my 10th year with the preschool population and am so lucky to be in this role.
Play, learn and grow are the values of MDELC. Ensuring our littlest learners in the district receive a well-rounded preschool experience is my goal. We are focusing on conceptual skills, social emotional skills as well as functional skills. Strong teacher-child interactions as well as strong school-parent connections are crucial for our students’ success.
For many of our students and families their experience at Mary Drew is their first formal school experience. I take that very seriously and want to provide our students with a supportive learning environment. Most of all I want them to HAVE FUN!
Personally, I am a mom of two. My oldest is off to Lincoln Way East this year as a freshman
, and my youngest is a sixth grader at Walker. I enjoy any outdoor activities and love to be near the water.
I value communication and teamwork and welcome parent input and involvement. Any questions, concerns or things you need to share, please feel free to reach out! I can be reached via a call to the office, through email or stop by and come visit!
I am looking forward to a GREAT year together!
